Synopsis:
Lu Rongkang is a young man of the Shui ethnic group from the mountainous region of Guizhou. Stricken with polio as a child, he suffered muscle atrophy below the knees and relies on handmade protective "shoe covers" to move forward by kneeling and dragging himself. At the age of 20, he became a community teacher at a local primary school. Deeply aware of the importance of education for children in the mountains, Lu visited families door to door wearing his improvised “boat shoes,” persuading dropout students to return to school — each visit requiring him to crawl for miles along rugged mountain paths.
With heartfelt care for his students’ learning and daily lives, Lu gradually moved even the most reluctant parents. His resilience and strength also touched a Miao ethnic girl named Xiang Meiyun, who eventually fell in love with him. When his first group of students passed the high school entrance exams, Lu was filled with pride and joy. Over the years, generations of students have come and gone, but Lu has remained in the mountains, dedicated to teaching for more than two decades.
Thanks to government support, Lu eventually stood up on his own feet. Today, his former students are contributing to society in various fields, continuing the legacy of the man who once crawled through mountains to keep their dreams alive.
