In 1930s Shanghai, Tang Shan, a doctor returning from overseas studies, encounters the Axe Gang looting innocent villagers and steps in to help, thereby making an enemy of the gang leader, Yu Laoqi. Yu’s sister, Yu Xiaoqian, suffers from a throat condition that leaves her mute. Yu Laoqi, a devout believer in fox spirits, rejects Western medicine, hoping divine intervention will cure her. By chance, Xiaoqian meets Tang Shan, whose sincerity convinces her to undergo surgery.
Meanwhile, for financial gain, Yu Laoqi collaborates with foreign doctors, stealing and killing children for unethical medical experiments. Upon discovering this horrific scheme, Tang Shan secretly investigates, relentlessly pursuing the gang’s crimes, but his pursuit ultimately places him in grave danger.
